Description (Service)
  • Offers rent geared to income and market rent services  
  • Processes applications, maintains waiting lists and identifies applicants for tenant selection 
  • Housing allowance and rent supplement units available 
  • Priority status available for victims of domestic violence 
  • Outreach services available for clients 
  • Offers non-smoking buildings
Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative (CHPI) 
  • Assists individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in securing shelter or maintaining their current housing 
  • Offers assistance with the following: 
    • housing arrears costs in order to prevent loss of housing 
    • utility and energy costs in order to prevent disconnection 
    • moving costs, security deposits 
    • essential household items for those in crisis and transitioning from homelessness
Outreach Services for Homelessness Prevention 
One on one assistance related to: 
  • community drop-in 
  • landlord mediation/assistance 
  • information and referrals 
  • family support services 
  • integration with both internal and external services and organizations
Hours Mon-Fri 8:30 am-12 noon, 1 pm-4:30 pm

Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up 
  • Special priority status available for victims of domestic violence and abuse 
  • Each member of the household must be a Canadian citizen, or a landed immigrant, or a refugee claimant 
  • No deportation, departure or exclusion order has been made against any member of the household 
  • No member of the household owes rental arrears to any housing project under any housing program (Includes market and/or rent-geared-to-income) 
  • No member of the household has been convicted of an offence under section 85 of the SHRA or a crime under the Criminal Code (Canada) regarding rent-geared-to-income assistance, or has been found by the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal or a court of law to have misrepresented their income for the purpose of rent-geared-to-income 
  • Meets the household income limit requirement as set by the province 
  • Must be able to live independently 
  • Tenant insurance is required
Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative 
  • Must have income below the Low Income Cut Off (LICO) as established by DTSSAB
  • Applications available online and at the DTSSAB office and from the non-profit housing provider office 
  • Income assessment, verification and personal identification required
