Public Comments Mar 26, 2014: The Province of Ontario and all 9 members of the Matawa First Nations signed a regional framework agreement outlining how they will benefit from development of the proposed Ring of Fire; the agreement ensures that both parties will work together in the areas of regional long-term environmental monitoring and enhanced participation in environmental assessment processes, resource revenue sharing, economic supports, regional and community infrastructure
Description (Service)
  • Observes and investigates mining developments and mining exploration within the Matawa First Nations territory, mainly in the area known as Ring of Fire  
  • Provides updated information about mining exploration and development to member communities 
  • Ensures that the member First Nations are fairly dealt with in regards to any economic or industrial development within Matawa territory 
  • Supports individual community plans with a focus on shared priorities
