Description & Services

Provides counselling services to help individuals improve communication with family and friends and stay safe and independent at home
 
Home Visits 
  • Provides individual and family counselling in an individual's home
 
Counsels on issues related to coping with hearing loss such as:  
  • Understanding your hearing loss 
  • Use, care and maintenance of hearing aids and other listening systems 
  • Managing difficult listening situations 
  • Selecting specialized communication equipment, such as telephones, alarm clocks, television accessories 
  • Referrals to other community services
 
Communication Devices 
Provides information, demonstration and assistance with: 
  • Assistive Listening Devices such as Personal FM and Infrared systems 
  • Specialized telephones such as amplified, Voice Carry Over (VCO) and TTYs 
  • Alerting devices such as fire/smoke, doorbell, phone, baby cry
 
Education 
  • Offers education and training to consumers, family members, caregivers and the general public
 
Training can include: 
  • Family support and communication training 
  • Hearing Health Care Clinics 
  • Hearing Help Classes 
  • In-Service Training 
  • Presentations/Community displays 
  • Self-help and support groups
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm
Areas Served Kenora District ; Rainy River District ; Thunder Bay District
Eligibility Ages: 55 year(s) and up 
 
Communication Devices 
  • Individuals who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing
 
Education 
  • Open to all
 
Home Visits 
  • Priority is given to individuals 55 years of age or older having trouble adapting to hearing loss 
  • Individuals under the age of 55 with other disabilities as well as hearing loss, requiring home-based services are also eligible
