Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community  
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills  
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members  
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
 
Economic initiatives Lac Des Mille Lacs First Nation (LDMLFN) is involved with include:  
  • Ongoing work on the development of the economic development strategic plan 2011-2016 
  • Operation and ownership of Savanne River Resort which includes cabins, campground sites and a marina 
  • Ownership of Upper Seine Forest Corporation (which acts as the Economic Development Corp for community) 
  • Consultations with the MNR for forestry management/resources which includes five provincial forest management units (FMU) 
  • Negotiations with mining companies conducting exploration activities on LDMLFN territory (14 companies currently working mining claims) 
  • Development of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with companies operating within traditional territory
