Public Comments The Homes for Special Care beds are considered permanent housing and are funded and licensed annually by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Description (Service)
  • Operates a 10-bed rehabilitation housing program for individuals struggling with severe and persistent mental health issues 
  • Provides seven beds to help individuals transition into the community within two years 
  • Provides three Homes for Special Care beds 
  • Assists individuals in working towards their optimal level of functioning as a transition to more independent living
Services provided include:  
  • Assistance with daily living 
  • Medication Management 
  • Ensuring individuals attend appointments and receive therapeutic services, such as counselling

Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up 
  • Must have a psychiatric diagnosis and be under the care of a physician and treatment team 
  • Must have the capacity to adapt to living cooperatively with others 
  • Cannot be a threat to the general safety of others 
  • Must have control of substance abuse if applicable
  • Referrals by any health professionals, hospitals, social community service agencies or family members 
  • Referrals reviewed by a selection committee
