Service: Complaints Against a Children's Aid Society

Public Comments Please note: If someone has asked for or received a service from children's aid society and have a concern about an inaccuracy in their file with the society, they must address this concern through the children's aid society's internal complaint review panel before they can apply to the Child and Family Services Review Board to have your complaint heard
Description (Service) Hears applications from individuals who sought or received a service from a children's aid society and who believe that the society has: 
  • Refused to proceed with his/her complaint 
  • Failed to respond to his/her complaint within the timeframes required by regulation 
  • Failed to comply with the complaint review procedure or with any other procedural requirement under the Child and Family Services Act 
  • Failed to comply with clause 2(2)(a) of the Child and Family Services Act which provides that the "service provider shall ensure that children and their parents have the opportunity where appropriate to be heard and represented when decisions affecting their interests are made and to be heard when they have concerns about the services they are receiving" 
  • Failed to provide reasons for a decision that affects his/her interests 
  • Inaccurately recorded something on his/her file or record and this has not been resolved through the children's aid society's internal complaint review panel

Eligibility Individuals who have asked for or received a service from a children's aid society and: 
  • Have a complaint about how the society has handled their written complaint; 
  • Have a complaint about how the society failed to hear their concerns about the services that they asked for or received; or 
  • have a complaint about how the society failed to provide reasons for decisions that affect their interest
Application Complete and submit the application form, ensuring to include: 
  • Information about the facts of your particular situation 
  • Dates of incidents that you are referring to, and 
  • Copies of any correspondence that you have received from the society
