Please Note: Due to the potential Canada Post mail disruption, Ontario Works benefit cheques and statements for October will not be mailed. 
 
Regardless of the status of the postal disruption, cheques for October will only be available for pick-up.  
For cheque recipients served by TBDSSAB satellite offices, please contact your local office about cheque pickup procedures and locations. 
 
All cheque recipients must show valid government issued identification in order to pick up a cheque. 
 
*Please note: Ontario Works recipients on direct bank deposit do not need to come to the main office as your money will be deposited in your bank account. Please use your health card for medical services and if you require emergency dental services, contact the TBDSSAB main office by phone.

Description (Service)
  • Provides short term financial assistance to individuals and families in need 
  • Offers Extended Health Benefits to qualifying individuals 
  • Provides support and assistance to program participants in meeting their participation responsibilities  
  • Provides information to recipients about participation requirements including seeking employment, basic education, volunteer work, or self employment
 
Participants can access a variety of programs and support services including but not limited to: 
  • Addiction Treatment Services  
  • Child Care  
  • Clothing Needs  
  • Community Placement Program  
  • Discretionary Benefits  
  • Drug Benefits  
  • Employment Resource Center 
  • Employment Start-up Costs  
  • Enhanced Employment Placement Program 
  • Learning, Earning and Parenting 
  • Pay-Direct to Landlord  
  • Special Diets Allowance 
  • Transportation

Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up 
 
Individuals must: 
  • be a resident of Ontario  
  • be in immediate financial need to help pay for food and housing costs  
  • be willing to take part in activities that will help find employment 
  • sign a Participation Agreement
 
Amount of financial assistance provided is determined by various factors including: 
  • Family size 
  • Housing costs 
  • Income
 
Extended Health Benefits 
Individuals and families who: 
  • were eligible for Ontario Works in the previous month
Application Individuals can apply online or by contacting the office
 
The following documentation is required to complete application: 
  • Copy of mortgage or rental agreement  
  • Health card 
  • Information about assets owned, such as a Registered Retirement Savings Plan,  
  • Information about other income and money, such as a pension 
  • Proof of identity, such as birth certificate  
  • Proof of immigration status, if required 
  • Proof of Social Insurance Number 
  • Recent bank statement for all bank accounts  
  • Record of Employment and/or most recent pay stubs
