Description (Agency) Provides immediate, short term crisis intervention services to individuals affected by crimes and tragedy
Description (Service)
  • Provides immediate, short term crisis intervention services to individuals affected by crime and tragedy 
  • Provides information and referrals to appropriate resources and services 
  • Ensures victims receive and continue to receive support and assistance 
  • Advocates on behalf of victims  
  • Provides on-site or telephone assistance
 
Helps victims: 
  • Cope with the impact of a traumatic event 
  • Identify options and choices at a time when victims may need guidance and direction 
  • Regain a sense of personal control 
  • Return their life to a desired degree of stability 
  • Validate emotions and reactions
 
Provides support for the following types of occurrence:  
  • Assault  
  • Break and enter  
  • Domestic violence  
  • Elder abuse  
  • Homicide  
  • Motor vehicle accidents  
  • Multi-casualty occurrences  
  • Robbery  
  • Sexual Assault  
  • Sudden Death  
  • Suicide
 
Sexual Assault Counselling 
  • Provides individual counselling to victims and their families
 
Volunteers 
  • Recruits individuals to provide support to victims 
  • Provides individuals with specialized training at no cost
 
Volunteers will: 
  • Assist in developing a personalized safety plan for the victim 
  • Provide information about legal assistance and programs 
  • Offer referrals to long-term service providers within the community 
  • Provide temporary practical and emotional support
Hours Mon-Sun 24 hours
Areas Served Beardmore ; Geraldton ; Jellicoe ; Longlac ; Nakina
Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up 
 
  • Children under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian present 
  • Individuals affected by crime and/or tragedy
 
Sexual Assault Counselling 
  • Victims of sexual assault and their families
 
Volunteers 
  • Individuals 18 years of age and over 
  • Require a valid driver's license 
  • Undergo mandatory screening 
  • Available for three 12-hour shifts per month or equivalent
Application
  • Self referral or third party referral 
  • Police and/or Emergency Services will arrange for services with a victim’s consent
