Public Comments
  • Volunteers receive in-depth and comprehensive training and provide support to victims of crime  
  • A number of VCAO sites provide support to victims of traumatic events and disasters such as sudden death, fire and natural disasters  
  • VCAO programs work in partnership with local police and emergency services 
  • VCAO programs are managed by volunteer community boards of directors
Description (Agency) Provides immediate, short term crisis intervention services to individuals affected by crimes and tragedy
Description (Service)
  • Offers on-site early intervention and crisis intervention 
  • Provides safety planning, referrals to community services, provision of cellular telephones for eligible victims 
  • Offers enhanced support for vulnerable victims
 
Victim Quick Response Program 
  • Provides immediate assistance with emergency expenses related to the incident, including: 
    • emergency home safety 
    • accommodation 
    • meals 
    • transportation 
    • dependent care costs 
    • counselling 
    • cellular phones 
    • vision care 
    • crime scene cleanup 
    • funeral expenses
 
Additional assistance for victims of human trafficking include: 
  • replacement of government documents 
  • storage locker 
  • dental 
  • tattoo removal 
  • treatment at a recovery facility
 
Note: there is no direct reimbursement to victims 

 
Sexual Assault Counselling 
  • Provides individual counselling to victims and their families
 
Volunteers 
  • Recruits individuals to provide support to victims 
  • Provides individuals with specialized training at no cost
 
Volunteers will: 
  • Assist in developing a personalized safety plan for the victim 
  • Provide information about legal assistance and programs 
  • Offer referrals to long-term service providers within the community 
  • Provide temporary practical and emotional support
Hours Mon-Sun 24 hours
Areas Served Beardmore ; Geraldton ; Jellicoe ; Longlac ; Nakina
Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up 
 
  • Victims of crime and tragic circumstances
 
VQRP 
  • Victims of violent crime who have no other financial resources
 
Volunteers 
  • Individuals 18 years of age and older 
  • A valid driver's license is preferred 
  • Undergo mandatory screening 
  • Available for three 12-hour shifts per month or equivalent
Sexual Assault Counselling 
  • Victims of sexual assault and their families
Application Referral by police, emergency services, community agency or self-referral
Languages English ; French ; Ojibway ; French -- Interpreter available; Ojibway -- Interpreter available
