Description (Service) Assists homeowners with repairs, including accessibility, health and safety issues, and energy efficiency in the form of an interest-free forgivable loan
 
Repairs may include: 
  • Structural 
  • Electrical 
  • Plumbing 
  • Heating 
  • Roofs, walls, floors, and ceilings 
  • Doors and windows 
  • Vents, louvers 
  • Fire safety 
  • Septic systems and well water 
  • Improved accessibility such as ramps, handrails, chair and bath lifts, height adjustment for countertops and cues for doorbells/fire alarms 
  • Safety-related features that help seniors stay in their home

Areas Served Thunder Bay District
Eligibility Single dwelling home owners at or below the 60th income percentile for the area
 
Eligible repairs may include: 
  • Structural 
  • Electrical 
  • Plumbing 
  • Heating 
  • Roofs, walls, floors, and ceilings 
  • Doors and windows 
  • Vents, louvers 
  • Fire safety 
  • Septic systems and well water 
  • Improved accessibility such as ramps, handrails, chair and bath lifts, height adjustment for countertops and cues for doorbells/fire alarms 
  • Safety-related features that help seniors stay in their home
Application
  • Through the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board 
  • Repairs must begin within 120 days of project approval and completed within 6 months; copies of all financial invoices must be kept for reporting and audit purposes 
  • Loans up to $25,000 may be secured by promissory notes 
  • Loans over $25,000 require mortgages registered on title
 
Note: Loan forgiveness period is 10 years for single dwelling homes
