Description (Service) Elections Ontario is a non-partisan Agency of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, working under the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer, an officer of the Legislative Assembly. Ontario elections are governed by the Election Act and the Election Finances Act.

Eligibility To be eligible to vote must be: 
  • A Canadian citizen 
  • 18 years old or older on the date of the election 
  • Registered to vote in your area/electoral district; and 
  • Not prohibited from voting under any law
     
    Note: Permanent residents ("landed immigrants") and temporary residents (foreign students, foreign workers) are not eligible to vote

To work as a poll official:
 
18 years of age, Canadian Citizen and resident of Ontario for the following positions: 
  • Area Manager (advance poll and election day) 
  • Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (election day) 
  • Deputy Returning Officer (advance poll and election day) 
  • Poll Clerk (advance poll and election day) 
  • Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer (advance poll) 
  • Polling Day Revision Assistant (election day)
 
At least 16 years of age: 
  • Information Assistant (advance poll and election day)
    Application Must provide the following identification to receive a ballot: 
    • Certificate to Vote Note:The Notice of Registration card (NRC) may NOT be used as proof of name; the NRC may be used as proof of residence ONLY. An elector must show a second piece of identification to prove name. 
    • One piece of identification with name (name must match the name on the voters list) 
    • Any document from the following list:
       
      • Birth certificate 
      • Canadian Forces Identification Card 
      • Canadian Passport 
      • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship (Citizenship Card) 
      • Certificate of Indian Status (Status Card) 
      • Old Age Security Card 
      • Ontario Driver's Licence 
      • Ontario Motor Vehicle Permit 
      • Ontario Health Card (with or without address) 
      • Ontario Photo Card 
      • Social Insurance Number Card 
      • Veterans Affairs Canada Health Card 
      • Any document issued by the Government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government, or issued by a Band Council in Ontario (established under the Indian Act) 
      • Any of the following:
         
        • Credit/Debit Card, Employee Card, Hospital Card or Bracelet, Student Card, Union Card or Professional Licence, Bank/Credit Card Statement, Cancelled Personalized Cheque, "Certification of Identity and Residence" form signed by authorized administrator, Cheque stub, T$ tax slip or pay receipt issued by an employer, CNIB Identity Card, document issued by a post-secondary school Campus Residence Official, Hospital Record/Document, Insurance Policy/Statemetn, Loan/Agreement with a Financial Institution, Post-secondary school Admissions letter or Transcript/Report Card or Tuition/Fees Statement, Residential Lease, Retal or Mortgage Agreement/Statement, Utility Bill
