Description (Service)
  • Works one on one with families experiencing family violence to develop a plan of action for identified concerns 
  • Organizes and facilitates community events in schools, powwows, and health fairs to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevention of family violence 
  • Provides victim service referrals and emergency support for family violence 
  • Offers Aboriginal Culture based healing, self help processes for anger management, and positive self image development; alternative discipline methods and positive relationships 
  • Develops programs, workshops, promotions, and prevention education campaigns dealing with family based violence awareness 
  • Provides referrals to counselling, legal services, and treatment centres
 
Aboriginal Victim and Family Liaison Program 
  • Provides services based on the individual needs of families of missing and murdered Aboriginal women, families and friends of homicide victims, and those who have been victimized
 
Promotes gender-based, culturally safe programming, including:  
  • Assistance with court appointments or other legal processes  
  • Court accompaniment  
  • Home visits  
  • Outreach (e.g. at correctional centres or women's shelters)  
  • Referrals to other service providers
 
Culturally relevant programming includes the involvement of Elders and may include:  
  • Craft Circles  
  • Elders bannock and tea program  
  • Full Moon Ceremonies  
  • Hand Drumming program  
  • Women's Sharing Circles
