Description & Services
Description (Service) Offers services, ongoing support and education to assist families in the healing process 
  • Prevents children from becoming at-risk because of certain conditions such as family violence, poverty, abuse, neglect and unhealthy living conditions by offering information and education on effective parenting and good life teachings 
  • Promotes healthier child development through early childhood interventions including information sessions on pre-parenting preparation and child development 
  • Provides information on children's nutrition, injury prevention, and child mental health 
Provides public education and information in the areas of: 
  • Developing family values that are culturally based  
  • Developmental needs of infants, toddlers and pre school aged children 
  • Effective parenting 
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE) and Fetal Smoking Syndrome
Programs include the following:
Community Kitchen/Nutrition and Cooking Class 
  • Provides a weekly cooking program; families plan and prepare a healthy meal together to take home  
  • Provides grocery budgeting, shopping and proper food storage advice
Fresh Start/Snack Attack 
  • Provides a family program that alternates between physical activity one week and learning to prepare a nutritious snack during a cooking class the next week
Craft Circle 
  • Offers a variety of parenting related topics while participating in cultural craft classes 
  • Children create arts/crafts at their own table
Parent's Time Out 
  • Provides a respite period for parents for any reason 
  • Provides a snack, crafts and activities for children in attendance
Hours Office: Mon-Fri 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Sep-Jun * Mon-Fri 8:30 am-4 pm, Jul-Aug 
Community Kitchen: Thu 10 am-1 pm 
Fresh Start: Tue 1 pm-3 pm 
Craft Circle: Wed 1 pm-3 pm, Sep-Jun * Wed 11 am-2 pm, Jul-Aug 
Parent's Time Out: Mon 9:30 am-12 noon
Areas Served Rainy River District
  • Off reserve Aboriginal individuals and families with children 6 years of age and under 
  • Open to all with a focus on off-reserve Aboriginal peoples
Parent's Time Out 
Priority given to low income families
  • Intake assessment required
  • All weekly programs require pre registration

Must sign up by Wed 12noon

Fresh Start
Must sign up by Mon to participate in "Snack Attack" program

Parent's Time Out
Must call between 8:30am-9am on Mon to register child/children for that day
