Description (Agency) Acts as a non-profit housing provider for the District of Sault Ste Marie Social Services Board
Description (Service) Acts as a non-profit housing provider for the District of Sault Ste Marie Social Services Board 
  • Manages family and seniors rent-geared-to-income social housing units for off-reserve Aboriginal peoples 
  • Offers various types of buildings and accommodations within the city in scattered locations 
  • Partners with the Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) Corporation

  • Bachelor apartments 
  • One-bedroom units 
  • Two-bedroom units 
  • Three-bedroom units 
  • Four-bedroom units 
  • Special needs units

Eligibility Ages: 16 year(s) and up 
 
  • Indigenous people who are First Nation (status or non-status), Metis or Inuit living off-reserve 
  • Special priority given to victims of domestic violence abuse
 
Eligibility criteria include: 
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or refugee claimant 
  • No member of household can owe arrears of rent or money to any past or present Social Housing Provider or 
  • Has been convicted of an offence regarding the receipt of Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) assistance or 
  • Has misrepresented their income for the purpose of RGI 
  • All RGI tenants/members are required to pursue all possible sources of income such as Ontario Works, Employment Insurance etc 
  • Meet the RGI financial needs criteria
 
Seniors Housing 
  • Anyone 60 years of age or older or will be 60 years of age within 12 months of date of application
