Description (Service)
  • Advances safe, fair and harmonious workplace practices that are essential to the social and economic well-being of the residents in the region 
  • Sets, communicates and enforces (through key areas of occupational health and safety, employment rights and responsibilities, labour relations and internal administration) workplace standards while encouraging greater workplace self-reliance
Health and Safety 
  • Performs inspections and monitors compliance for industrial, retail, mining, and construction establishments
Employment Standards 
  • Monitors compliance and investigates possible violations 
  • Provides information and education to employers and employees, for ease of voluntary compliance 
  • Resolves complaints  
  • Conducts proactive inspections of payroll records and workplace practices
Labour Relations 
  • Provides neutral third party assistance to trade unions and employers through arbitration, mediation and collective bargaining
