Description (Service)
  • Assists people to improve their health by providing health promotion, health education, and disease prevention programs and services  
  • Prevents and controls communicable diseases through public education, surveillance and investigation of infectious diseases 
  • Monitors new influenza strains 
  • Provides presentations on health related topics to schools and community groups 
  • Operates the Genetic Counselling Clinic 
  • Provides Sexual Health Services
 
Immunizations 
  • Assesses the immunization status of all children attending school or licensed day nurseries 
  • Provides immunizations including influenza at the Family Clinic 
  • Keeps immunization records in a computerized information system 
  • Researches travel health information and learns which immunizations are required for travel to the country or region 
  • Advises travelers on how to protect themselves against tropical and other diseases
 
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) 
  • Ensures that publicly funded vaccines are available to health care and medical clinic facilities in the catchment area
