Manitoulin Island Treaty
Description (Service) Provides educational services and supports to elementary, secondary and post-secondary school students  
  • Administers Lakeview School 
  • Coordinates bus transportation arrangements
Secondary Education 
  • Provides tuition sponsorship, student activity fees and one-time lock fee for students attending high school at Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) which is overseen by the Rainbow District School Board 
  • Partners with MSS to inform and prepare students for life at the high school by assisting with timetable choices, meeting with the students and easing the transition through a spring weekend of activities  
  • Provides monetary awards to students with perfect attendance records and/or credits earned per semester
Post Secondary Program (PSP)  
  • Determines funding eligibility and provides financial assistance to post-secondary students 
  • Provides advocacy and liaison services, counselling and other support services throughout the school year 
  • Provides assistance with admissions criteria and applying/filling out application forms for colleges and universities 
  • Recommends education policy amendments as necessary to meet student needs

Eligibility Members of M'Chigeeng First Nation
Secondary Education 
  • Members of M'Chigeeng First Nation residing on-reserve 
  • Must be attending an accredited high school 
  • Must meet academic requirements for secondary program 
  • NOTE: MFN students off-reserve are approved for sponsorship only if they are included on the Nominal Roll
Post Secondary Program  
  • Members of M'Chigeeng First Nation both on/off-reserve 
  • Must be continuing education at a post-secondary institution  
  • Financial assistance limited by available funding
Application Secondary Education 
  • Must submit an application for sponsorship to Education Department 
  • Must register at chosen high school before start of classes 
  • Funding is limited to 4.5 years per student to receive Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD); exceptions may be made in specific circumstances
Post Secondary Program 
  • Applications for assistance available at office  
  • Deadline to apply for assistance for all start dates is Mar 30th 
  • All continuing students must reapply each year and provide transcripts from the previous year
For financial assistance applicant required to provide:  
  • Photocopy of recent status card  
  • Completed post-secondary application package available at Education Department 
  • Letter of acceptance from post-secondary institution  
  • Transcripts from high school and any previous academic institutions  
  • Detailed letter of intent with program information  
  • Copy of voided cheque or bank information  
  • Signed student contract
