Description (Service)
  • Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community 
  • Provides services through guidance and partnership with Waubetek Business Development Corporation (WBDC)  
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills  
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website  
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business  
  • Maintains updated statistics regarding population trends, employment, skills and the community profile 
  • Manages the local business loans program  
  • Conducts proposal development for short and long-term community infrastructure projects and employment programs
 
Economic initiatives and on-going projects for Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation include: 
  • Owns and operates Wabuno Fish Farm & Processors, a processing plant for farm-raised rainbow trout with sales to domestic and export markets 
  • Cemetery expansion 
  • Construction of a new Elders Drop-In Centre 
  • Developing an aggregate site 
  • Enhancement of public walkways, fitness and hiking trails, playgrounds, buildings and public access roads  
  • Housing development 
  • Upgrading sewage disposal and septic systems 
  • Roads and storm drainage  
  • Solid waste disposal land use 
  • Subdivision expansion land use 
  • Participates in ownership of the Manitoulin Island Hotel & Conference Centre with five other First Nations and the Great Spirit Circle Trail (GSCT), a Manitoulin-based business that offers experiential tourism packages to people who want to experience First Nations culture 
  • Installation of a parking lot and digital signage at the Four Directions Community Complex to make the local community centre more accessible and inviting for elders, youth and visitors; provincial funding announced in Feb 2017 through the Aboriginal Community Capital Grants Program (ACCGP) and the Aboriginal Economic Development Fund (AEDF) for this project
