Description (Service) Works to empower and instill Anishinabek culture and traditions in the youth members of the United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising 
  • Provides activities to increase the knowledge and use of Anishinabek language including speaking contests and drum groups to record traditional songs 
  • Coordinates cultural activities and events such as monthly sweats, full moon ceremonies, medicine walks, and art contests/exhibits 
  • Educates the youth about the teachings and protocols of traditional ceremonies including cedar baths, sacred fire, fasting etc 
  • Raises awareness of the importance of cultural traditions in the workplace such as daily smudging and speaking Anishinabemowin 
  • Provides training sessions and workshops to teach youth Native crafts such as hand drums, moccasins, porcupine quill items and weaving
