Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community 
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills 
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website  
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business 
  • Hosts economic development strategic planning sessions 
  • Maintains local business directory 
  • Assists in the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members
 
Economic initiatives Kingfisher Lake First Nation is involved with include: 
  • Advisory capacity for Omahamo Store and private businesses 
  • Partnership with 11 other First Nation communities in the Wasaya Group Inc (WGI), who own several businesses including Wasaya Airways LP 
  • Joint ownership of Wataynikaneyap Power with 12 other First Nations and Goldcorps, to reinforce transmission lines to Pickle Lake and Musselwhite Mine and to construct new transmission lines north of Pickle Lake to service remote First Nation communities 
  • Partnership with Naicatchewenin and Wunnumin Lake First Nations in Synterra Security Solutions LP, an arm of Canadian Security Mgmt, which offers trained security officers to mineral exploration projects and mine sites 
  • Joint ownership of the Ramada Inn (former Landmark Inn), Thunder Bay, with 2 other First Nation communities 
  • Construction of new 9,600 sq ft business centre with funding assistance from Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), announced in Oct 2010 
  • Assistance with the complete renovation and expansion (May 2015) of a new state-of-the-art Omahamo Store
