Description (Service)
  • Functions as a service club that supports community projects and individuals in need through volunteerism and fundraising 
  • Operates under the Lions Club International 
  • Provides financial and other assistance to individuals and organizations with a focus on working with the blind and vision-impaired 
  • Hosts special projects such as visiting Eye Van, usually in July
 
On-going initiatives include: 
  • Operating eye banks for tissue used in corneal transplants 
  • Providing dog guides for people who are visually impaired, hearing ear, seizure response service, autism assistance, and diabetic alert 
  • Cataract surgery programs 
  • Vision research programs 
  • Travel and accommodation funds for persons requiring medical appointments and surgery outside of Kenora 
  • Providing eye glasses for persons who cannot afford them 
  • Collecting used eye glasses to be re-used in developing countries
