Public Comments All post-secondary student services for Keewaytinook Okimakanak communities are administered through the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC)
Description (Service)
  • Assists member First Nations with programs and services in the secondary school education system of their community 
  • Aims to prepare youth for full and meaningful participation in society by providing the best possible educational opportunities
 
Provides the following support and services to First Nations students attending high school away from their home community: 
  • Case management services for each student  
  • Social and spiritual support  
  • Encourages academic achievement  
  • Individual counselling in areas students might be struggling with such as homesickness and socialization issues
 
Boarding Home Program 
  • Coordinates arrangements to place students attending high school in Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, Dryden, Timmins and other communities with a suitable boarding home 
  • Provides applications for families willing to become host boarding homes and students requiring a boarding placement
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm
Areas Served Deer Lake First Nation ; Fort Severn First Nation ; Keewaywin First Nation ; McDowell Lake First Nation ; North Spirit Lake First Nation ; Poplar Hill First Nation
Eligibility Must belong to one of the member First Nations within Keewaytinook Okimakanak Territory
