Public Comments
  • All communities are part of Treaty #3 except Lac des Mille Lacs which is part of the Robinson-Superior Treaty 
  • Bimose Tribal Council is opening Ontario's first urban First Nation elementary school for the fall of 2015 in Kenora at the former Our Lady of the Valley school; for the first year it will provide JK-Gr 2 and each year will add an additional grade 
  • Oct 14, 2015 was the grand opening of Gagige Kiizhik Gakinoo'amaawadiiwi'gamin Gakinoo'amaawasowin (GGKG School)
Description (Service) Assists member First Nations with programs and services in the education system of their community 
  • Aims to prepare youth for full and meaningful participation in society by providing the best possible educational opportunities 
  • Posts available teaching and education related jobs within member communities in the Band Office and online 
  • Participates in the First Nation Student Success Program (FNSSP) with a focus on improving literacy, numeracy and student retention 
  • Administers Gagige Kiizhik Gakinoo'amaawadiiwi'gamin Gakinoo'amaawasowin (GGKG School), an Anishinaabe immersion school
 
Provides following services: 
  • Planning of programs and curriculum including special needs 
  • Planning of new schools and changes to existing schools 
  • Providing administration and teacher evaluations 
  • Ensuring First Nations content and perspectives in programs and curriculum 
  • Updating policies for boards and schools 
  • Assisting in tuition agreement negotiations
 
Post Secondary Education Program 
  • Offers post secondary education program administration upon request 
  • Collaborates with Band administration to determine successful candidates for available post secondary funding 
  • Provides applications for financial assistance through Band Office or on community websites
Hours Mon-Fri 8:30 am-12 noon, 1 pm-4 pm

Eligibility Must belong to one of the member First Nations in the Bimose Tribal Council territory
 
Post Secondary Program 
Must be continuing education at a post-secondary institution
Application Services are delivered at the local level (Band Office)
