Description (Service) Represents the community in all lands and resources initiatives  
  • Oversees the Land Code which was voted in by community approval and became effective June 2015 giving Magnetawan First Nation full responsibility for their own land management  
  • Liaises with all companies undertaking resource development in traditional Magnetawan First Nation territory including mining developments, forestry projects and fisheries projects  
  • Participates in negotiations and agreements with resource developers to ensure Magnetawan First Nation is fairly included in benefits  
  • Consults with target groups who have an interest in land and resource issues such as mining  
  • Develops and implements a consultation protocol for negotiations related to Lands and Resource issues  
  • Advises community members on Lands and Resources issues via meetings, website or correspondence  
  • Provides leadership for the development of a Land Use Plan for the community 
  • Assists in the development of the Community Capital Plan  
  • Cooperates with the Housing Department for allocation of land to Magnetawan First Nation registered members who wish to build on territorial land
 
Lands and Resources initiatives include but are not limited to: 
  • Input for the on-going expansion of Hwy 69 into a four-lane highway  
  • A General Contractor job with sub-contractors Miller Group Inc and Nimkii Explosives under the Ministry of Transportation Aboriginal Procurement Pilot Project to administer an aggregate quarry operation along Hwy 69 
  • Plans to establish Magnetawan First Nation's own aggregate quarry operation 
  • Signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Apr 2013 with Ontario Graphite Limited (OGL) for the possible development of a graphite mine on Magnetawan territory 
  • Negotiations with Henvey Inlet and Shawanaga First Nations to establish a three-way partnership called Shwe Miikaan Inc to more effectively communicate with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO)
