Description (Service)
  • Addresses and acts upon all housing issues and related requests  
  • Ensures that housing issues are effectively managed
 
Offers the following services:  
  • Provides recommendations and changes to the housing policy  
  • Receives and reviews applications at Council meetings for renovations, new housing units, housing loans and housing renovation loans  
  • Reviews rents to ensure payments are made  
  • Arranges inspections of rental units and community houses for maintenance, repairs and renovations  
  • Ensures proper housing standards are enforced and inspections are completed  
  • Carries out annual maintenance and repairs on behalf of tenants  
  • Administers subsidized housing program  
  • Maintains a comprehensive database on all community housing units that includes information such as what programs were accessed for building and repairs, loans outstanding, services (water, sewer, roads) available, inspection reports, condition of unit, year it was built and other unit particulars  
  • Enforces all tenant agreements and explains agreement responsibilities 
  • Assists with accessing financial assistance for some housing prorgams including the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) On-Reserve
 
Housing Program/Band Office also: 
  • Leases 97 cottage lots to members of the public with limited road access, electricity and telephone services on Lake Panache 
  • Completed a new sub-division with 27 serviced lots and also includes a new four-plex 
  • Was chosen in Dec 2010 as the pilot project location to build sustainable housing in partnership with the Assembly of First Nations and the Holmes Group, from the popular Canadian television show Holmes on Homes
