Public Comments FIMUR 2014/20 is a program with limited annual funding. Approvals will be granted per fiscal year until maximum annual funding is reached. This program will run annually until March 31, 2020
Description (Service)
  • Provides financial assistance for home repairs to bring home to acceptable standards 
  • Provides funding in the form of a forgivable loan at an average allocation of $25,000 per household; maximum allocation is $50,000 per household determined on a case-by-case basis and only considered in extenuating circumstances 
  • Offers assistance in completion of home repairs application
Types of major repairs and rehabilitation include: 
  • Air quality and mold remediation 
  • Electrical 
  • Fire safety 
  • Heating 
  • Modifications to increase accessibility (barrier free) 
  • Plumbing 
  • Remediation for overcrowded dwelling (ie creation of secondary suite) 
  • Septic systems, well water and well drilling 
  • Structural
Note: Period of forgiveness is 10 years from the date of repairs completion
Hours Mon-Fri 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Areas Served Ontario ; Services are not available in every community-call Head Office for clarification
Boundaries Excludes the Greater Toronto area (GTA)
Eligibility Homeowner/applicant must meet all the following criteria: 
  • Aboriginal individuals who are urban or rural First Nations (status or non-status), Inuit or M├ętis living off-reserve 
  • Market value of home must be at or below average market selling price in community as determined by Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC) 
  • Projects for repair assistance must be at the sole and principal residence of applicant 
  • Total household income is below the program's established guideline for family size 
  • Must have no outstanding property tax, municipal water or mortgage arrears 
  • Must have insurance coverage for full replacement value of building 
  • Must not be in receipt of other homeownership funding programs (check with program coordinators for details)

  • Attachment of all supporting documentation
  • Must mail or courier completed application; NO faxes or emails accepted
