Description (Service)
  • Provides the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG), a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year/level, up to a maximum of $2,000 per person, available to registered apprentices once they have successfully finished their first or second year/level (or equivalent) of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades 
  • Provides the Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG), a taxable cash grant of $2,000 to registered apprentices who have completed their training to help them become certified journeypersons in designated Red Seal Trades, which include (in Ontario): 
    • Agricultural Equipment Technician 
    • Appliance Service Technician 
    • Automotive Painter 
    • Automotive Service Technician 
    • Baker 
    • Boilermaker 
    • Bricklayer 
    • Cabinetmaker 
    • Carpenter 
    • Concrete Finisher

Eligibility
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a Protected Person 
  • Must be registered in or have completed an apprenticeship program in a trade that is designated as a Red Seal trade 
  • Eligibility for Level 1 grant: must have been registered as an apprentice for at least 12 months 
  • Eligibility for Level 2 grant: must have been registered as an apprentice for at least 24 months
Application
  • Apply online or download a paper copy of the application (must be completed in pen) 
  • Applications, including supporting documents, must be received no later than June 30th of the calendar year following the date the applicant progressed in the apprenticeship program
 
Applications can be dropped off in person at the Service Canada office, or can be mailed to:

Supporting documentation required: 
  • Copy of both sides of the Registration Wallet Card or, if applicable, Date of Registration Letter 
  • Copy of official Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) Confirmation of In-School Training letter
